Dr. Jai’s Basketball Camp: It’s for Everyone! – 2026 Volunteer Opportunity
Event Description:
Dr. Jai’s Basketball Camp: It’s for Everyone! is an inclusive youth basketball camp designed specifically to empower children with autism who are often underserved in traditional athletic environments. Founded by Dr. Jai, a medical resident in Family & Community Medicine at UNLV, this initiative merges athletics, mentorship, and sports medicine to create a safe, supportive, and engaging space for children to learn and grow.
During the camp, children are taught foundational basketball skills such as shooting mechanics, dribbling, and passing in a structured and accommodating environment tailored to meet diverse developmental needs. The program promotes confidence, belonging, movement, and joy while ensuring accessibility for all participants.
The 2025 inaugural camp demonstrated immediate impact on families within the Las Vegas community, with parents expressing how meaningful it was to see their children experience inclusion and connection through sports.
For 2026, we are expanding efforts and seeking dedicated volunteers to support camp activities, assist with skill stations, provide encouragement, and help create a positive, inclusive environment. Volunteers will play a vital role in ensuring each child feels supported and empowered.
This initiative also serves as a foundation for future scalable camps regionally and nationally, with long-term goals of integrating innovation, adaptive sports expansion, and research-backed sports medicine practices to better serve special needs populations.
